Mid-Year Checkup: How to Audit Your Goals and Finish the Year Strong

If you can believe it or not, we’re already halfway through the year. How are your New Year’s Resolutions coming along? Goals, although seeming concrete and static, can shift and change over time. At the start of the year, working out five times per week might have seemed impossible, but now it’s a walk in the park. Or maybe you overestimated what you thought was possible and bit off a bit more than you could chew.

Either way, as we approach the halfway mark, it’s essential to audit your list of goals and determine whether you’re well on your way to crushing them or if you need to make adjustments.

Assess the Current Situation

First things first, you need to know where you stand before you can know whether you need to correct your course or stay the same. Hopefully, you wrote down your goals, and you might even have them on your fridge or somewhere you see them daily. What was the most important thing you wanted to accomplish this year? Does it still seem achievable, or have you slipped up a little bit? For best results, it’s best to set one big goal and then many smaller ones that can help lead you there. Look at your list and assess if you need to make any changes.

How Are You Tracking Progress?

The best goals are measurable. Things like “be happier” sound great on paper, but there isn’t a measurable way to track this goal. Instead, your goals should be things like reading 10 books, meal prepping every week, gaining a certain percentage of strength, etc. Hopefully, you’ve been tracking your progress this entire time, but if not, it’s not too late to start. Grab a pen and paper and start putting units of measurement next to your goals with an ending number and a number associated with where you are now.

Are You Going After the Right Things?

Goals change, and that’s okay! Just like everything in life, change isn’t always a bad thing, and it’s important to try new things. From changing your career to switching to a new CBD cream in your routine, what felt “right” at one point might not be true now. Has your goal to become a certified yoga instructor entered the rearview mirror now that you’ve found your passion for running? Or maybe you thought that you wanted to read 10 books, but now you’re more determined to learn how to build websites on the side? If your goals have changed, cross them off the list and add your new ones.

Are You Leveraging the Right Tools and Products?

Finally, are you making the most of the resources available to you? This can be anything that helps support your goal, with anything from an instructional series on yoga to an anti inflammatory cream to help you cool down after a workout. Consider what’s in your arsenal and how it can assist you on your way to your year-end goals.
